Master Bath Metamorphosis

After a long time talking about redoing the floors and shower in our master bath finally they are finished.
In celebration, I treated myself to fresh roses and a new orchid. I might continue to indulge myself with flowers in the bathroom. After all I see this area all the time. Why not?

I am showing the after pics first. I have not done anything about new light fixtures yet. Actually, I like the light they give out and don't want to chance picking out something else that doesn't give out as much light. I realize they scream dated, a word I dislike but right now I am weary of workman and decisions. All the workers I have had have been very professional and extremely nice. It is just a tiring process but rewarding after you recuperate.
The floor was carpeted throughout the bath and our closets.
The shower was tiled with 4 X 4 white tiles but was 20 years old.
We added the seat in the shower and extended the depth about 6 inches.
I love the seamless door.

This is the before pic. The carpet was so plush and comfortable but let's just say it had plenty of wear.
I am cringing showing the next pics because you know what tile does when you clorox it to death. Can't believe I am showing these!

Do you think I needed a clean floor?

The process was messy. The workers labored one entire day hammering out the old tile. It was quite loud and dusty.

We couldn't walk on the floor at this point for a whole day because it needed to dry.

My closet is on one side of the bathroom and my husband's closet is on the other side. Shelves were removed and the walls painted. It was a job to take down and put the shelves back up. Glad I was not doing it.

There was not a vent over the shower so we had a vent light combination installed.

The new vent light is great. They also repaired the ceiling from a leak  so everything looks better.

All in all the process of replacing shower and floor took five days.  The closets were painted and all the trim and molding so this added a few days.  It is wonderful to have freshly painted closets and new carpet. I won't say I enjoyed the process of taking EVERYTHING out of our closets and putting it back but I will say it was a great thing to do. I am still going through some things  slowly and giving away and throwing away. That's a good feeling.

We also replaced the carpet in the our bedroom and I am still in the process of changing a few other things. Everything had to be moved out of this room also. I am thankful for clean and new. Feels great to be finished and almost back to normal.

    Love, Mona

  4. What a beautiful transformation Bonnie! Love your new tile floor and shower! We've never renovated a bath before and but have a kitchen. Messy and a little painful, but oh so worth it!

  5. I have visions of some day redoing our bathroom, but that's all it is because I dread the mess and the inconvenience. Unloading the closet makes me shudder, but it would be a good way to clean out. Your results are encouraging!

  6. Your bathroom re-do turned out beautiful, Bonnie! I love the new floor and shower -- just gorgeous. My brother-in-law and his wife recently got a new shower very much like yours. They really love it, and I bet you'll enjoy yours too. It does feel great to have things updated, clean, and shiny new, doesn't it? :)

I know you're glad to have your house back to yourself and all the workmen finished. I think you made great choices with your new materials, Bonnie. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  7. Very pretty! Lovely transformation!

  8. Hi Bonnie,
I was so happy to read your comment, regarding our 50th Anniversary trip to Europe. Our cruise was truly amazing. Please take lots of photos and share with us your fabulous trip. I love your bathroom remodel. As I write this comment we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen, dining room and laundry room. Today the drywall was applied. Our painter will be here on Monday and next week will be the flooring I understand exactly what you are talking about with the mess. But this to will pass. I will be so happy to have an updated kitchen.I love your blog and follow you every time you post.

  9. Love your new flooring and shower surround, Bonnie! It looks so serene and clean-lined. I know you are so happy to be done (until if and when you decide to swap out your lighting). It is a stress to have workers AND the mess while remodeling... but, it was worth the inconvenience! =D blessings ~ tanna

  10. Its looks gorgeous. I love the color on the walls.Yes, treat yourself to all the flowers you want!!! We all need something that can make us smile everyday! Plus you deserve it my friend!

  11. I just went through gruelling contractor work - took 8 weeks becuase of mistakes and delays and I TOTALLY understand what you mean about being weary of them. And the mess, noise, disruption, etc. It was awful, but worth it, yes?

We have to redo our master bath too - I really like what you have done, it is awesome.

You could consider taking done your lights and just painting the shiny bright brass white for the time being - will make it less "dated" I hate that word too, btw - and just give you more time.

It's amazing though, when we got rid of our Hollywood Lights from the upstairs bathroom (what we lovingly called them) I was worried too about good lighting - but what we put in was very bright. So don't be afraid. : - )

Your comments are so encouraging and make my day. I would love to know what you are thinking.
