Autumn Entertaining

Autumn is in the air even here in the south. The mornings are cooler and the leaves are beginning to fall. I'm happy to be joining a number of talented tablescapers for a Fall Tablescape Blog Hop sponsored by Chloe Crabtree @Celebrate and Decorate. A schedule of the bloggers participating is included at the bottom of this post.

Thank you, Chloe, for organizing the blog hop!

The inspiration for this tablescape began with my friend Joan's beautiful Lenox china pattern named "Autumn".  The floral motif with jeweled colors of autumn flowers is so elegant.
Remember last year I told you that when my friends offer their things for my tablescapes I am delighted. So is my husband because after 47 years of marriage he says I don't need any more dishes!
Notice, I didn't say I didn't want more dishes!

An elegant china pattern banded in gold called for gold flatware and napkin rings. I was happy to have on hand the perfect shade of blue napkins as well as blue goblets, gold napkin rings, and gold chargers.

My centerpiece began with this authentic French jardinière at a street market in Dijon, France, by my friend Sarah, who is in the antique business. You might enjoy viewing her Instagram account called Spence Collection.  She was so sweet to offer some things for my last year's tablescape and again this year.
Isn't it gorgeous? The burnished copper and bronze tones, it's graceful shape and detailing was perfect for my centerpiece. It was easy to add fall flowers, dried pods, and grapes for a fall arrangement. Since grapes are harvested in the fall they came to mind and I liked the cascading effect of adding the clusters of grapes. I have been wanting to add some fruit to a flower arrangement so this was a great time.

The size and weight of my burnished candlesticks worked well with the jardiniere. I've had the gold chargers for years and they have been used frequently.

A vintage damask tablecloth given to me by my mother-in-law was just the right color for the ivory background of the plates.

I hope perhaps something in my post today has given you an idea to incorporate in your decorating for fall or at least you are thinking about it.
It won't be long before we will be baking pumpkin bread, apple pies, drinking pumpkin lattes, and adorning our porches with varieties of pumpkins, mums and corn stalks. I can't wait for those crisp mornings to enjoy a morning walk and have coffee on the porch!
Are you dreaming of autumn as much as I am? It's a little early here in the deep south but it won't be too long. Football season has started so that is a clue it is coming!

  1. Bonnie, What a beautiful French jardinière and how wonderful to have it on loan for your table. I love it as a centerpiece with the grapes, Gerbera daisies, hydrangeas and alstroemeria. I’ve always loved blue paired with gold and your friend's Lenox ‘Autumn’ is such a lovely pattern and perfect for a fall table, especially with the blue goblets and napkins. Wouldn't it be fun to be closer and share our accessories, dishes and linens, what fun we could have!! It’s always a pleasure to blog hop with you, Happy Labor Day. ♥

  2. Bonnie, you have created such an elegant fall table. You know you have good friends when they all start lending you dishes and accessories so you can have the pleasure of creating such a gorgeous table! I had a friend lend me something for my table this week as well. I hope your fall is as beautiful as your table!🍁🍂

  3. Bonnie, there is something magical about the complementary colors of blues with orange for me, signaling autumn. This is a perfect layout for my tastes, traditional yet with vintage flair. Your floral arrangement in the jardiniere with pods and grapes transports us to a harvest setting, and the china is just gorgeous in its vintage, classic deaign. Yes, you've certainly inspired me with the idea of borrowing from friends instead of storing and having so much of this tableware! It's a fabulous idea. I've encouraged my neighbors and family to borrow from me, and I wish they'd do it more often!

  5. Bonnie, I love your French jardinière. It is perfect along with your Lenox dinnerware. The flowers of daisies, hydrangeas and alstroemeria and grapes remind one of France and the laid back casual yet elegant atmosphere. Pairing the blue goblets and napkins add to the elegance of your table. Great job. It’s always a pleasure to blog hop with you, Happy Labor Day.

  8. The jardiniere is really lovely and I especially love the Autumn Lenox with the chargers. That's so striking. It's a beautifully formal table yet one that looks warm and inviting, not coldly formal.

  16. Bonnie, your table is lovely. I almost chose 'Autumn' as our wedding china, I have always thought it was beautiful. Your floral arrangement in the gorgeous jardiniere is stunning. It truly would be a ribbon winner on the show bench.

  17. Isn't the Lenox "Autumn" pattern of your friend, such a beautiful and exquisite pattern? That was so sweet of Joan to let you borrow the pretty dishes for your tablescape. The French jardiniere of Sarah's is a stunning piece and you've arranged it perfectly for your centerpiece. Dishes are such a weakness aren't they? I just bought four salad plates at Pier 1 last week!

  18. Bonnie, what a lovely tablescape and it did come together beautifully, just as I knew it would! How sweet of your friends to share their beautiful dish sets and the jardinière, they look so pretty used together. I love the arrangement too, the colors and the way you use the fruit. Grapes are so pretty in an arrangement, I have to remember to do that. I love your choice to the tablecloth for the table and what a sweet gift from your MIL. Thanks Bonnie for all of your inspiration. You have inspired me to do a scape of my own. Have a wonderful week. PS, we sound just alike about the dishes, where would I put another set my husband asks!
