Monday Morning Blooms

The theme today is sunflowers. Join me for a touch of Provence. I'm using a sunflower tablecloth that was bought in1997, in Avignon, by my mother-in-law.
The yellow plates were my grandmother's. I remember fondly using those at her farmhouse when I was a child. The plates are Rivera by Homer Laughlin made in the '30s and '40s. They bring back pleasant memories, and I am happy to have them. Gold vintage Fostoria goblets add a touch of fall to the table.
I used this same tablecloth back in 2016 in a local sunflower field. I had hoped to do that again, but it did not work out. However, my garden is much cooler than the 90-degree day when this picture was taken.
Limelights from my garden were added to store-bought sunflowers and placed in vintage olive oil jars. Sunflowers are such happy flowers, and sunflower seeds and oil are useful products made from sunflowers. They grow here in the United States and in many countries and are the national flower of Ukraine and the state flower of Kansas. The memory of my in-law's trip to Provence and my mother-in-law's tablecloth makes me think of the olive groves there. The taste of fresh olives and a baguette of bread dipped in olive oil transports me back to our trip there also.

Sunflowers brighten a room and make a delightful statement in any setting.
And since I have a large open area, I thought three arrangements would fill the space nicely, and I had three similar containers.
I thoroughly enjoyed eating the props after taking the photos!
I read this online: Did you know that in 1987, an anonymous buyer paid 39.85 million dollars for Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" painting? The artist originally hoped to sell the painting for $125.00.

Bonnie, I'm so pleased and excited to see you as a guest on Monday Morning Blooms! Well deserved! I'm absolutely smiling with delight over your sunny Provencal themed table. First off, the table cloth is the perfect linen, and certainly special as a souvenir from your MIL's visit to Avignon decades ago. Your grandmother's Homer Laughlin plates from the 30s add another layer of sentiment. Your vintage olive jars are the perfect containers for your limelights and gorgeous sunflowers. I remember your table in the field of sunflowers, but I much prefer your beautiful garden. Your table for two look so inviting. I wish I could click my heels and join you at this beautiful setting. I'd feel as if I were back in Provence!

What a treasure to have inherited the tablecloth from your dear mother-in-law that was purchased in Avignon. The Homer Laughlin plates and vintage goblets add the perfect French touch. The trio of vintage olive jars filled with sunflowers and limelights are the piece de resistance! I would love to sit at your table and enjoy food, conversation, and the beauty of your garden. ReplyDeleteBonnie, that is perfectly Provence as I would expect it! Wow, the cloth, the plates and your threesome of olive jars are just fabulous. I do remember that field setting, but your garden is truly so inviting. All that greenery is a welcome temperance to the temperatures of summer. September must be a really nice time in your garden, especially mornings, as the temps are cooler. Happy Labor Day, my friend. Ours is a rainy one.

The yellow plates are so special too. I love the olive jars. perfect vessels for those sunflowers. A very happy and cheeful table setting.

I wish we could sit and chat at your pretty table, Bonnie. I feel like I just went to Provence! The vases with your sunflowers and your pretty tablecloth make me want to pull up a chair and have some cheese and a baguette!

ReplyDeleteBonnie, this entire setting is just breathtaking! It belongs in a magazine. The French tablecloth provides such a lovely anchor to your beautiful floral arrangements and place settings. What a treasure to have the tablecloth and pretty plates. I have so enjoyed my visit, sweet friend!
