Christmas Delights

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at my home at least on my table. I'm a traditionalist about waiting until after Thanksgiving to decorate.
Today, I'm joining a group of tablescapers for a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop. This group is still going strong after five years. Chloe Crabtree @Celebrate and Decorate has been our tireless leader. I want to thank Chloe for her leadership but I also want to thank those in this group for your friendship and inspiration. The creativity through the years continues to inspire me. A  list of all the participants is listed at the bottom of this post. You will love visiting each one and let them know you were there with a comment.

Three different cloches with jeweled Christmas trees were my centerpiece. For me, it was a first not to have fresh flowers as a centerpiece since I love them so much. The cloches were placed over a vintage runner atop a white tablecloth also vintage.

It was fun to place Christmas crackers above the plates to add a little whimsy to the table.
Christmas crackers are a traditional Christmas favorite in the UK. Christmas crackers traditionally contain a tissue crown( paper party hat), a motto (joke, riddle, or trivia question), and a small gift item. The gift contents are usually fairly inexpensive and range from plastic toys and noisemakers to magic tricks and edible treats.
I bought these crackers from T.J. Maxx and they include a musical whistle, hat, motto and snap.
You can look up the history of Christmas crackers @WhyChristmas.com

New to me this year is the Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage chargers. I'm so glad I shopped Nancy's Daily Dish sale on Labor Day weekend via Suzanne Zingg's Instagram account for the cabbage chargers. I rather like the plate stack with the cabbage chargers, Christmas tree Spode plates, another larger white charger, and a red placemat. I tucked in a tartan plaid napkin and placing the napkin this way saves space if space is an issue.

My favorite thing on the table is these vintage Christmas tree glasses. I remember so well buying them as a gift for my mother-in- law many years ago. She is gone now so it is special that I can use them and remember her.
The emerald green goblets which I think are Lenox were bought at an estate sale.

Since I didn't have fresh flowers for a centerpiece the tablescape seemed to lack life so I decided we needed something organic on the table. And .... a red velvet cake came to my mind.
I intended on buying one but couldn't find one so I ended up baking one. I haven't made a red velvet in many years!

Now, let's leave the dining room and see another table in the kitchen with the same centerpiece with a few subtle changes.

I did this table in the kitchen last year when both our children and their families came to our house for Christmas. This table I set ahead of time because when you have ten people to eat doing everything you can ahead of time is a necessity. We used this table for breakfast, lunch, and a few dinners. I was able to fit seven at this table and three younger children at the bar not shown. Our Christmas Day meal was in the dining room with my formal Christmas china and fresh flowers.

This is the formal table in the dining room. Do you remember it from last year?

On this table, I used dishwasher safe glasses and cutlery. The plate stack was also simpler. The plaid cloth changes the look, doesn't it? It is more casual.

I remember fondly my house full of my family last year and having us all together for the first time in about five years was a great blessing.
We are hoping to be able to travel to our daughter's for Christmas this year but don't know what the next few weeks will bring.
I'm glad we can escape the world's woes with pretty tables and enjoy each other's traditions.

I will reply to your comments on this post under your comments. I wish Blogger would email comments again. Please check back for a reply.

✨Blessings to you and your families this Christmas season.🎄

  1. Bonnie, I love your sweet trees under your cloches for a centerpiece...festive, simple and easy too! What a great idea to have a simpler table with the same theme. I love the shot looking into your living room with the twinkling lights of the tree. Your home looks beautiful, cozy and inviting! I’m dreaming of red velvet cake now for breakfast. :) As always it’s a pleasure to hop with you. Happy December ♥

  2. Bonnie, you know how much I am loving your “under the cloche” and the trees are so perfect. Flowers may be scarce around my house, so being creative in your centerpiece shows how we can have beauty in a different way. I am loving your plate stack with your cabbage chargers, I am trying not to be envious. Sharing a more casual table is perfect for the younger ones. How wonderful it would be if we could share a slice of red velvet cake and a cup of coffee. Red velvet is my family’s favorite. Wishing you a most beautiful Christmas season filled with joy, peace, and love!

    1. Pam, I am glad you liked my trees under the cloche. It was good not to stress over the availability of flowers in my area.
Yes, we could talk for hours, as we have done before, enjoying cake and coffee!I had forgotten red velvet was your family favorite.

  3. Merry Christmas, Bonnie! Your red, green and white traditional Christmas table offers comfort and joy to my Covid heavy heart. You've captured the happiness and hope of the season with vibrant visuals. Like you, I am a flower girl yet I didn't miss the flowers one bit with your tree cloches amid the familiar Christmas china and festive table runner. My spirit has been lifted and I am grateful.

  5. Good morning, Bonnie. Your tables are so pretty and inspiring. And your trees under the cloches are lovely and very creative. Your green goblets are Lenox, I have them in cobalt blue. I would be so happy to be seated at your table enjoying a piece of your Red Velvet cake.
Wishing you and your family a beautiful month of December filled with blessings.

  6. Sandra, Thank you for your commplments. I meant to look up the glasses but something kept getting in my way. I thought they were Lenox so thank you for confirming.
I would enjoy a chat and red velvet cake together also.
Have a joyful week and enjoy decorating.

  7. Bonnie, your tables are both spectacular, and very inviting for me! Love that you took advantage of Nancy's sale and scored those cabbage chargers - how satisfying to be able to find and use like this. The golden tree glasses look 3D although I think it's the way they're painted - very pretty. And I am crushing 100% on the emerald green glassware. That is SO pretty. It reminds me of the old Boopie glassware, which my former MIL had a complete set of. Having the trees as your centerpiece works wonderfully, and the cloches elevate their status so well. I also love the casual table set last year! I agree, the plaid cloth is fun. You're so right in that having these tables to share and our traditions that go with our holidays is definitely one way to beat the woes the pandemic has caused for the holidays, and certainly helps keep our traditions very much alive. Please pass me a piece of that beautiful cake, and we will carry on.......♥

  8. Bonnie, your table setting is lovely. I love the jeweled trees under the cloches used as your centerpiece, works beautifully with the Christmas Tree pattern. I like your centerpiece is different from fresh flowers, sometimes a change is nice. I also love using Christmas crackers when I have room. They add such a nice whimsical touch. Your Red Velvet Cake looks divine. Last years tables were lovely. You have so many lovely things Bonnie. Its nice how we use our gifts from our loved ones, always in our hearts...........

    1. I agree how special it is to use our loved ones things. It was nice to have a change from fresh flowers. It's my first time to purchase Christmas crackers. I've just not seen them available where I was before.
Thanks Emily for your sweet comment. I bought the Christmas tree glasses g in a shop in Mountain Brook. It's gone now but it was a pretty shop.Wish I could remember the name.

  9. Rita, thank you my friend. The Christmas glasses are handpainted but the ornaments are raised beads glued on. I don't know the company that made them but I bought then in 1972 or 1973. We were newly married and didn't have much money and I really splurged on these but I knew my mother-in-law would like them.
    I appreciate your lovely comment.

  10. Bonnie, I keep scrolling up and down to take in all the beauty shared here. I love the look of each table! The plaid casual look is perfect for everyday, and the formal dining room table is exquisite. I absolutely adore the idea of the cloches down the center of your table. I'm going to copy that idea if I can find a suitable taller cloche for my center one. You have me thinking about my next table and I'm still typing. Ha ha!
I recently picked up a set of Nutcracker crackers wit that theme in mind. Thought it would be fun for my little nieces. Too many wonderful details to comment on here, but suffice it to say I'm pinning multiple images!!!

  11. I really, really, REALLY love the trees under the cloches as a centerpiece. That's darling, festive, fun and (assuming you have the cloches!) so easy and charming. We have the same Spode, which I love. It's my favorite for Christmas meals. I probably won't be doing flowers this year either, given that I don't go out! Maybe my poinsettia will live long enough. The plaid is great. I love it all, Bonnie.

  12. Bonnie, thank you for the tour of both formal and casual tables --- all very festive and special. I loved the cloches as a centerpiece and all the other vintage tableware (especially the Christmas tree glasses). Hoping you'll be able to travel to your daughter's. We are expecting our two sons and a 4 month old puppy, but also worry it might not happen. They are planning on driving together with all their work computers, etc. in case they need to stay a few weeks. Wishing you the very best!

  14. Bonnie, with such a pretty centerpiece, you don't need flowers. I only have a few cloches, but viewing your pretty table with the bottle brush trees makes me want to add a few more cloches to my stash. The glasses are special, and must put a smile on your face when you use them to set the table.
P.S. I have a terrible sweet tooth as well. I freeze my desserts so as not to gobble them down to fast!

  18. Bonnie, I love your bottle brush trees under your cloches as your centerpiece. A red velvet cake is always a wonderful addition to any table!!!!❤️I have never had Christmas crackers and think that this would be a fun thing to do in the future with my grandsons. We never ate at a formal dinner table, so I tend to be much more casual, so I am more attracted to your plaid table- I feels as though we could sit and talk at that table for hours!! I hope you get to spend it with your daughter. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas season 🎄❤️

  21. Bonnie, Both of your tablescapes are gorgeous. I absolutely love the use of bottle brush trees. It is such a vintage look. It was so nice that you used the cute Christmas tree glasses from your mother-in-law. What a beautiful remembrance of her. I love how you used the same theme with the cloches for both tables and the plaid tablecloth to change things up. The tree plates are perfect and vintage pieces. Yum....I could go for a slice of the red velvet cake. It looks so delicious. I never knew much about the crackers on the table. What a nice touch and some shared info. 22. Bonnie, both tablescapes are beautiful. The photograph that gives us a look into your living room with the tree is gorgeous. I love how you created a centerpiece with the cloches and bottle brush trees. I miss fresh flowers, too, but out of an abundance of caution I haven't been anywhere to get any. We are only purchasing items curbside. I am praying that we get to have Christmas dinner with my parents, but only time will tell. I love all of your pretty vintage pieces, and that cake looks most scrumptious! Take care, sweet friend!
