Autumn Fancy

Hello friends and welcome to a Fall Tablescape Blog Hop sponsored by Chloe Crabtree@Celebrate and Decorate and Andrea Hundley@ Design Morsels. Join me in the garden for a touch of fall this September. Our temperatures here in my garden do not feel like fall but there is cold ice tea to help you cool off while you scroll.

I'm mixing vintage and new with 70's or 80's placemats, 40's goblets, vintage napkins, and new cheetah dishes. My tablecloth is a painters cloth.

My centerpiece is a mixture of grocery store flowers with some pods and feathers added placed in a copper pitcher with a gold handle. The gold handle ties in the gold cutlery.

I loved the mixture of pinks, yellows, and oranges with a little green for the flowers.

The goblets are from the 1940s. I found these glasses at Scott's Antique Market in Atlanta for my mother-in-law a long time ago. She had a few pieces and talked about hoping to find more. At that time, I went to Scott's fairly often and was so excited to find several sizes in a set of eight. I could not wait to give them to her for Christmas because I knew it would be a wonderful surprise. I wish I knew the name of the pattern and if anyone knows please let me know.

I did a summer tablescape with these same dishes in July. It looks so different using other colors and flowers.

Surprise. Fast forward a few days and I found this tablecloth and wanted to give it a whirl. My wilted coleus in the background look just like I did setting this alfresco table. Ladies, it is hot in Alabama!

After four days some of the flowers were spent so to fill in I added limelights and pittosporum from my garden.

Fall Snacks with Granddaughter

Our Alabama granddaughter spent five days with us recently during her fall break. Since she was a little girl she and I have cooked something, decorated a table, and had a nice visit eating the fruit of our labors. We call these times " having a tea party". Our menus do not meet the standards of Tea Time magazine but we have a great time.

This is a flashback to our first tea party in 2013. It really warms my heart.

Leftover pumpkin roll from my Garden Club and candy corn came in handy.

A copper pitcher holds orange Alstromeria surrounded by several snacks. My granddaughter made the festive franks and puppy chow mix from recipes from her Home Economics class.

My grandmother's quilt that I had forgotten I had provided the perfect tablecloth for us.

The weather cooperated and we enjoyed hot apple cider and all the snacks on the patio.

We also baked peanut butter cookies but they didn't last long!

Tea Party with Sophie 2017

This post started out only about fall snacks with our Alabama granddaughter but then I started reminiscing. Looking back at former tea parties is fun. Our hearts are full that God willing we will have all our grandchildren at our house this year for Christmas. The parties aren't elaborate but they enjoy them.

This party was the day after Thanksgiving 2017 and they wanted to decorate for Christmas. Frequently I hear, " Oh, I remember that."

And this tea party was held recently in Texas in early October. We started outside but it was 98 degrees so we moved inside. Her brother was playing golf with his granddaddy and Dad. We shopped for ingredients, baked, and decorated the cupcakes, and barely had time to eat them before everyone was home.

I almost forgot Leesy Loo( her nickname from her granddaddy) picked and arranged the flowers all by herself. I posted this party on Instagram but haven't blogged about it.
I'm a child at heart that remembers making tea cakes with my grandmother and her serving Russian tea from a quaint inexpensive teapot. Memories are special! What memories have you been making lately?

Welcome Fall Tablescape

I am looking forward to real fall weather because we are still in the high nineties. To jumpstart fall decorating join me and a myriad of tablescapers sponsored by our talented leader, Chloe Crabtree @ Celebrate and Decorate for a welcome fall tablescape blog hop. There are no real pumpkins anywhere in our area yet so, to begin the fall mood, velvet pumpkins are the best way to decorate.

To begin my tablescape, I placed a ruffled burlap runner on top of a matelasse cloth. Deer antler sheds, silk fall leaves, and mercury glass votives are at each end of the table runner. Candlelight always adds a special ambience.

Fresh yellow roses in mercury glass votives and dried bittersweet are interspersed among the various colored pumpkins.

The table runner is filled with velvet pumpkins of various shades of green velvet, a butternut squash shade and a darker russet shade along with burlap fabric pumpkin all in different sizes. The velvet and burlap pumpkins were sourced locally at " Initially Yours." Love our local shops!

Dried limelights add softness and another shade of lighter green for contrast.

I loved using the vintage floral napkins with mini grapevine wreath napkin rings and vintage nubby striped placemats. Is this a blast from the past or what? Orange, green, and gold were very popular in the seventies!

I was so happy how well my vintage game set china with its dressy gold border and shiny gold chargers worked with this table as did the amber Fostoria swirl glasses and gold flatware. I like rustic and glam elements together! It is hard to believe I have been participating in Chloe's tablescape blog hops since 2016! It is even harder to believe this is my 10th year of blogging.

You could add pilgrims and this table would also work for Thanksgiving.

Autumn Entertaining

Autumn is in the air even here in the south. The mornings are cooler and the leaves are beginning to fall. I'm happy to be joining a number of talented tablescapers for a Fall Tablescape Blog Hop sponsored by Chloe Crabtree @Celebrate and Decorate. A schedule of the bloggers participating is included at the bottom of this post.

The inspiration for this tablescape began with my friend Joan's beautiful Lenox china pattern named "Autumn". The floral motif with jeweled colors of autumn flowers is so elegant.

Remember last year I told you that when my friends offer their things for my tablescapes I am delighted. So is my husband because after 47 years of marriage he says I don't need any more dishes!

Notice, I didn't say I didn't want more dishes!

An elegant china pattern banded in gold called for gold flatware and napkin rings. I was happy to have on hand the perfect shade of blue napkins as well as blue goblets, gold napkin rings, and gold chargers.

My centerpiece began with this authentic French jardinière at a street market in Dijon, France, by my friend Sarah, who is in the antique business. You might enjoy viewing her Instagram account called Spence Collection. She was so sweet to offer some things for my last year's tablescape and again this year.

Isn't it gorgeous? The burnished copper and bronze tones, it's graceful shape and detailing was perfect for my centerpiece. It was easy to add fall flowers, dried pods, and grapes for a fall arrangement. Since grapes are harvested in the fall they came to mind and I liked the cascading effect of adding the clusters of grapes. I have been wanting to add some fruit to a flower arrangement so this was a great time.

The size and weight of my burnished candlesticks worked well with the jardiniere. I've had the gold chargers for years and they have been used frequently.

A vintage damask tablecloth given to me by my mother-in-law was just the right color for the ivory background of the plates.

I hope perhaps something in my post today has given you an idea to incorporate in your decorating for fall or at least you are thinking about it.

It won't be long before we will be baking pumpkin bread, apple pies, drinking pumpkin lattes, and adorning our porches with varieties of pumpkins, mums and corn stalks. I can't wait for those crisp mornings to enjoy a morning walk and have coffee on the porch!

Are you dreaming of autumn as much as I am? It's a little early here in the deep south but it won't be too long. Football season has started so that is a clue it is coming!
