Spring is Coming!

We have signs of spring everywhere! Daffodils, snowdrops, and tulips are blooming, and robins are everywhere! Our azaleas are even blooming early! However,  because of our cold and rainy days recently, spring seems far away. So we will just have to make springtime on our tables for now.
Please join me today as I participate with a group of tablescapers for a blog hop sponsored by Chloe Crabtree @Celebrate and Decorate. If you are coming over from Harbor Breeze welcome. The links for each blog participating are available at the end of the post. Spring decorating inspiration abounds.

"The trees began to whisper and the wind began to roll and in the wild March morning, I heard them call my soul. "Alfred Lord Tennyson
I snapped this quick picture after I conditioned my flowers. Normally, I am in a hurry and I don't take the time to condition flowers overnight but I did this time.
It has either been cloudy or raining almost every day since I bought my flowers for the spring tablescape hop. I made this picture one evening just to remember I did have fresh flowers because I was afraid I wasn't going to get to photograph my table with these flowers because there was no light. To complicate the matter I live on a very wooded lot so my home is dark on a normal day.
I haven't personally had any stock before so it was a treat for me. They have the sweetest fragrance. I found two shades of pink stock, purple alstroemeria, and white hydrangeas at Trader Joes on my way home from my daughter's home. It is incredible how reasonably priced their flowers are. The stock was $2.99 a bunch.
I love the gold stand for this urn but it makes the arrangement much taller and harder to photograph. In the room, it looks nice to be large. My ceilings are high so something taller looks better.
I found this sweet pink votive recently while visiting my daughter in a decorating shop. It made a perfect vase for some spring bouquet flowers.

The spring bouquet flowers grow as if they were ready to make an instant bouquet. Maybe that is how it got its name. My friend, Charlotte, has a large tree-like bush of spring bouquet and offered it for cutting. It also has a sweet fragrance. This is a great scrub for your garden and she says it has pretty berries around Christmas.
I also bought myself some beautiful Lenton Roses. I have enjoyed them on my dining room buffet. They came in three colors. I bought the Helleborus Ice N' Red and Helleborus Ice Rose. It also came in a white. They grow 12-24 inches high in Zones 5-9. It is a free-flowering perennial. Rose flowers stay dark rose as they age and they last until late spring. I will be planting mine in my woodlawn garden and hoping they will rebloom next year.
'I shopped the house' for dishes to use for this table and literally took the rose medallion plates off my wall. Years ago, I started collecting rose medallion because I liked it. I didn't realize how many I had and six was definitely enough to set a table. The price tags are still on the back of the plates because I don't want my children tossing these antique plates away.  Three of them are unmarked. That means they date earlier than 1890 when the U.S. required the date.
Rose medallion is a 19th and 20th-century Chinese export porcelain. Rose medallion has a central medallion of a rose, peony, or even birds. The dominant colors are usually pastel pinks and greens and can include red, blue, orange, yellow or gold.
The rose medallion vase used for the flowers and ginger jars and footbath on the buffet is not antique rose medallion. They are reproductions and are around 25-30 years old.
I switched out the mirrored runner for the round mirrored tray shown here. Which do you like best?

I normally use this tray on my coffee table.

I normally use a tablecloth mostly because it does help lighten up my room.

Would you believe I just took all the dishes off the table and put on a tablecloth? It is still so dark outside it really didn't help much.  I snapped a quick cell phone pic.

  1. Gorgeous Bonnie! I love the round mirror as it allows you to see the beautiful woodgrain of your table. Your Rose medallion is perfect for spring and looks beautiful paired with your arrangement of stock, alstroemeria and hydrangeas. Isn’t shopping for flowers at Trader Joe’s a treat? The closest one to me is an hour’s drive, I keep hoping they’ll expand my way. My MIL had a carpet of Lenton Roses in your front yard. I got a start from her years ago. As always it’s a treat to join you at the table and blog hop with you. Happy March ♥

    1. Mary, thank you for noticing all the details. I would be thrilled to live closer to a Trader Joe's. I wonder if they read blogs. We only have one in our state. Please build more- Trader Joe's.

  2. Bonnie, I would love to sit at this gorgeous table with the Rose Medallion plates. I chuckled about leaving the price on the back so your children won’t toss them. The arrangement is truly stunning with the stock, hydrangeas, and alstroemeria. Don’t we both wish Trader Joe’s was closer. I would have a hard time choosing between the mirrored runner or round mirror tray, they both look beautiful. The rain continues here today with flash flood warnings. Wishing you a delightful day and it is always a pleasure to blog hop with you!

    1. It is amusing to think about the kids finding all the price tags! Thanks Pam for your sweet comments. I really had fun with the arrangement. Having pretty flowers is a treat.

  3. Bonnie, the rose medallion is gorgeous, especially with the florals you found at TJ! I like the round mirrored tray, and I see you were able to capture the true beauty of those florals with some natural sunlight coming through. I am so fond of Asian design, and I think it works both in traditional and modern settings. Your wood table reminds me of our dining room. That wood is so seasoned, so beautiful. Your lenten roses are also beautiful. I wasn't sure if they were faux or not! That plant was one of the last I planted in my landscape before we sold. They were blooming elsewhere in the neighborhood a few weeks ago. I'm certain yours will do well in your landscape.
It's so nice when we can all share our own rays of sunshine in this gloomy transitional weather. I am definitely ready for spring, and am happy to be in your company today. Happy March!

  5. Bonnie, your table is absolutely beautiful! You have such a lovely collection of Rose Medallion pieces. I noticed the pretty ginger jar first thing with the breathtaking floral arrangement you created. I have my grandmother’s Rose Medallion teaset, and I treasure it. She had gifted it to me a few years ago. All of the elements that grace your table welcome spring perfectly! How I would love to have a seat at this beautiful table!

  6. Bonnie,
As a kindred spirit in a passion for gardening your centerpiece is gorgeous and you elevated it so perfectly by placing the bouquet in this exquisite ginger jar.
I certainly enjoyed the history of this lovely collection of Rose medallion pieces and just like Pam had a little chuckle over leaving the price tag on the back so the children won't toss them out. We do know our children!
I am not familiar with Lenton roses, but I want to be!
Beautiful table that is sure to welcome Spring!

  7. Oh Bonnie, your table is absolutely stunning! How funny you took the plates off the wall. I understand the feeling "right in front of me" because we look at our decor everyday we forget to really look. Love your plates and I had to smile with the reason for leaving the price tag on, I have that same reason. I love your table both ways but I prefer the round tray. I also love your table with and without the cloth. The wood look table and the white cloth, that's a tough call, both gorgeous. The chargers really let the plates pop and the tall vase of flowers looks so pretty. I have to say how much I love the footbath on the buffet as well, just beautiful. Bonnie, the table setting is worth all the work of removing the plates from the wall, it is exquisite...........

  11. Hi Bonnie,

What a BEAUTIFUL and elegant table you've set (as always). :) I really believe you'll enjoy those Lenten Roses when you plant them. My mom has some, and she just LOVES hers. I was there last Friday, and she had some in a vase in her breakfast area. They make wonderful cut flowers. Yes, Trader Joe's has great deals on fresh flowers; I've bought there many times. We're fortunate to have one close by where we live.

Those rose medallion dishes are gorgeous, Bonnie. I especially love the pinks in yours. I would never have thought of setting a table with those, and they sure do look pretty. I also like your pink dinner plates, your teacups and the gorgeous lace-edged napkins. I totally sympathize with your problem of having a dark house; ours is the same way. The back rooms get more light than the front, but I rarely take pictures of the back rooms. Sigh.

I like your round, mirrored tray the best, I think. Thank you for sharing your pretty table with us, and we're looking forward to spring here, too! Have a great week, Bonnie!

    Warm hugs,

    Denise

  19. Bonnie, what an elegant Spring tablescape! Truly fit for royalty! I fell in love with your collection of rose medallion plates. I can see why you chose to collect them. They are stunningly beautiful both on walls or on tables.....like small wall tapestry. The pink color really helps to bring out their beauty even more. I love your florals that you used on the table and your buffet. It is so wonderful to use fresh flowers. I love your use of the round mirror trimmed in gold since it really complements the sectional areas of your rose medallion plates. Happy Spring, Bonnie!

  24. Hi Bonnie! Wow, your floral arrangements are just outstanding! I can't get over how reasonably priced those flowers were from Trader Joe's. If only I had one nearby. You've done an expert job arranging them in such gorgeous vases around your spring table. Happy to be hopping with you!

  25. Wow, you showed us so many different looks with just one tablescape! At first I opted for the round mirror tray because it showed more of your beautiful burl wood tabletop, BUT, then with the tablecloth, you brought such an elegance to your table. Those plates are stunning! I can see why you want your children to realize these are treasured antiques. Thank you for joining the hop and sharing your talents!

Your bouquet of flowers is gorgeous. I love the fragrance of Stock and Trader Joe's is so fun with all of their varieties of flowers changing all the time and their prices - oh my! I still have my 3 orchid plants on my kitchen counter from the end of January and they are thriving!
Those plates are just fabulous and go so well with the beautiful floral arrangement!
