Dallas Arboretum and grandchildren activities

My husband and I spent ten days recently visiting our son in Dallas. My previous post shows a picture of some area bloggers that I enjoyed meeting while I was there. While we were in Dallas it basically rained every day we were there. But the rain stopped one afternoon long enough for a short visit to the Arboretum to see the daffodils and tulips.

Rain for days had affected all the flowers but they were still very pretty.
The color combinations of purple hyacinths and daffodils were striking.

A new area with potagers had been built since I was there in June. Beautiful varieties of lettuces and vegetables were thriving. This area has a stunning view of the river.

Even though most of the tulips had not opened you could tell how beautiful it was going to be.
The sun did not come out for a week while we were there. If it wasn't raining it was cloudy and very overcast skies so the tulips had not matured and few were open.

My little granddaughter likes to make pictures like her grandmother!

My grandson is a cub scout and the Pine Wood Derby was held while we were there. It was a special time for three generations to work on a Derby car together during the week that lead up to the race.
Our grandsons car. Would you believe there are videos  available about how to build a derby car now? The tracks are even computerized these days. My husband was amazed how things had changed since he was a cub scout and raced a car in a derby.
Our son took our granddaughter to a father/ daughter dance while we were there.  I was disappointed my pictures did not turn out because they were snapped in such a hurry.

The sun came out on the last day we were there so we were able to go to the lake and sail the kids boats their Granddaddy had made for them. Everything was wet and they had a great time playing outside as evidenced by their appearance.
Wish we lived closer and could see our kids more often. Our next trip out of town will be seeing our other set of grandchildren. Have a good week.

  3. Bonnie, these are lovely photos of the Aboretum but I loved seeing the pictures of your beautiful grandchildren. Sounds like a wonderful week. I can relate to the derby cars and the time and effort that goes into that but what fun. Your husband must be very crafty to make the sail boats. Beautiful, beautiful family. Thanks for sharing.

I woke up to two inches of snow today and it has been snowing all morning, so as I look at each and every gorgeous photo, I am transported into the world of spring where I would so very much love to be at this moment! Your granddaughter is like a flower too, with her great hair and in such a wonderful setting. Definitely frameable!

  14. Bonnie,
Your grandchildren are so cute. Love the Daddy/daughter picture..They always move so fast and are in such a hurry aren't they? It's always a challenge for me to grab my camera, focus and take the picture. But I keep trying. One in 50 is usually good. LOL
    Love, Mona

  15. Bonnie,
Our weather was just wretched that week and I wish it hadn't been for you. I know how special our trips are to see our children and grandchildren and we want everything to be as perfect as possible. However having said that I can see very well that you had a precious time and those grandchildren are darling!
