Our First Date

Battenberg lace, flowers and candlelight spell romance to me. Valentine's Day is a time I can set the table in the dining room for a quiet dinner away from the television and enjoy the ambience of candlelight, reminiscing and good food.

Our wedding china and silverware is still special after 44 years.
My husband brought me this Battenberg lace tablecloth from Korea some years ago. I haven't used it in a long time so it was fun to get it out again. I decided it would work well for my Garden Club seen here.  I'm using it again for our Valentine's Day dinner.
Our first date was the First Baptist Church Sweetheart Banquet on Valentine's Day, 1968, in a little town in south Alabama!!! I know I'm dating myself! We became sweethearts our senior year in high school and here we are now, married for 44 years.
Romance only deepens as our love has grown more and more.

It was a pleasant and beautiful sunny day for Valentine's Day.

I had a very nice afternoon gathering more camellias. I needed to replenish my arrangements with fresh blossoms and was thankful there were new blossoms open.
Southern Living magazine, this month, anniversary edition has a nice article on growing camellias.
Blood Red is the name of this variety.
I call this camellia peppermint because I'm not sure of the correct name and it is one of my favorite ones.
My copper heart pan by Martha Stewart is probably 30 years old. I love using it.

Bon Appetit!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!!

  1. Oh Bonnie, what a gorgeous and very special tablescape. It looks amazing. I really love the way you did the low-cute rose blossoms in a heart shape holder - what an elegant statement it makes.

Your Battenburg tablecloth is one sweet gift from your sweet hubs!

Please have a blessed and wonderful week! Hugs!

Our Valentine's Day was family filled fun, but not romantic in the least! I love your lace cloth and the red and white, it's perfect. And the camellias! The peppermint one is my favorite~

How wonderful that you have been with your husband 48 years!
We also had rack of lamb (roasted), roasted potatoes, beet/Gorgonzola/pine nut salad, green beans and a sea salt caramel dessert.

  10. Wow! Your Valentine table is perfectly gorgeous! What a neat story of how you two met. We went to our church Valentine Banquet last Saturday night were chosen to participate in the "Not-So-Newlywed" game. It was tremendous fun! But, a young couple won. I guess we couples married over 25 years need to have our memory batteries recharged. Ha! Your Camellia blooms are beautiful, too, by the way. Happy belated Valentine's!
